More than half of FDNY firefighters say they will refuse COVID vaccine, survey says – WABC-TV


New York City CITY (WABC)– First responders on the front lines will have access to a COVID vaccine in simply a few weeks, however a current survey exposed that more than half of FDNY firefighters will refuse a COVID vaccine.
The survey polled over two thousand members and around 55 percent of them said they would not get vaccinated. On Saturday, union agents discussed their findings.

Andrew Ansbro, the president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association says about 200 members are ill today – that has to do with two percent of the force. Ansbro is motivating his members to get the vaccine – though it is not obligatory.

” Everybody understands very first responders need access to it, we are promoting our members to get it,” included Ansbro.

Diana Rocco reports on New York Citys prepare for the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, beginning with high-risk health care employees and retirement home citizens and personnel.

Numerous FDNY members said they required more details prior to taking the vaccine.

” Its their choice. We are seeking to have this off-duty and not in the firehouse, we dont want to pollute our members in the firehouses,” said Ansbro.

Authorities say Randalls Island might be a place to shop and administer the vaccine.

Two vaccines are close to being launched – one by Pfizer and the other by Moderna. Professionals state both appear to be 95 percent reliable.

FDNY officials say whether members choose to take the vaccine or not – it will not affect their operations.
